"Our arms start from the back because they were once wings." -Martha Graham I've had the great pleasure of watching many of Bay Area Houston Ballet & Theatre's company dancers grow from a young age. As Feijoo Ballet School (the studio I am employed at as a Tap and Theatre Dance Instructor) shares the same space with BAHBT I often have the opportunity getting to watch the dancers rehearse. This month they had their performance of the classic ballet Swan Lake. I was able to capture some special moments both in the rehearsal process as well as during their first dress rehearsal on stage. The last time BAHBT performed Swan Lake was 2008. I was a member of the company and danced as one of the iconic swans as well as the performing pas de trois in Act 1. (My first performance in Swan Lake was in 2003 as a Young Princess.) I was so proud to watch the girls that lead the company now, dancing with such beautiful technique and artistry. It's heartening to see traditions continue in the place I came up in and to see these dancers sharing in the same experiences I had. Here's to the next tradition: Nutcracker!
