I had the very unique opportunity to go on a 10 day cruise to the Caribbean this last month. The husband and packed up some suitcases, left the drearily cold New Jersey winter, and escaped to one of the Royal Caribbean's newest ships, the Quantum of the Seas. This ship is filled with many high tech and extravagant features such as a Flowrider Surf Simulator, Outdoor Rock Climbing Wall, Basketball Court/Bumper Cars, Skydiving Simulator, and to top all that off they also have a Robot who will make you a drink! We visited the beautiful islands of St. John, St. Thomas, St. Kitts, and St. Martaan. Originally we were also supposed to go to San Juan but, due to bad weather ,the port was unfortunately canceled. St. JohnAs part of one of our excursions we ventured off to the island of St. John. There we spent time on Trunk Bay, the island's most famous beach. The blue water was crystal clear and warm. The soft, clean, white sand felt so comfortable under our feet. Our time there was tranquil and heavenly. St. ThomasSt. KittsPictured above is of a souvenir Market in St. Kitts run by the locals of the island. It was located a little further into the island away from the typical souvenir shops by the front of the port. We enjoyed meeting all of the people there and getting to purchase trinkets and tokens to take home to our loved ones. At the front of the port, several dancers and musician entertained us with their eclectic dances and rhythmic tunes. I always enjoy seeing people from other countries dance their cultural dances. There is no sign of embarrassment of performing or stage fright. Only joy of life and respect for culture shines through their movement! St. MartaanOut of all of the places we visited during our cruise time, St. Martaan is the place I'm most eager to visit again. The island's natural beauty was truly breathtaking and there was adventure behind every corner. St. Martaan has a Dutch side and a French side and thanks to an ATV company, we got to explore both sides! We visited the famous Airport Beach on the Dutch side and saw a few planes fly above us before landing. Later we drove over to the French side where we wandered the town of Marigot, eating delicious foods and enjoying the local shops. One of the favorite things we did on this trip was eat at Le Banana Cafe in Marigot. This quaint little outdoor cafe was unbelievably charming. The owner/bar tender/chef, a wonderful French woman named Marilyn, was such a gracious host to us. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was serene, and I didn't ever want to leave! I woke up to a snowy morning today missing those warm temperatures, tropical smoothies, and gorgeous views. I now can see why people love to cruise during the winter! What a lovely escape from reality it was and maybe we'll be able to vacation back the Caribbean again some day.
