I've had quite the great fortune of doing several headshots sessions as of late. A good friend recommended me to dancer and choreographer, Sebastien Jacquemin, for some last minute headshots before heading back home to France. Sebastien was nothing but sweet and I enjoyed our time getting to know each other. He had never gotten headshots done before so it was fun explaining to him the headshot process. I thought I'd blog and share with all of y'all some of the things I suggest to my clients going into a headshot/portrait session. WHAT TO WEAR: -Wear what make you feel comfortable. When you feel great in your clothes, you are much more relaxed in front of the camera. -As for colors, go for solids that compliment your skin tone and your eyes. I always recommend bringing a classic black look as well. -Try to shy away from crazy patterns and bold prints, though a simple stripe is nice. Things like lace and ruffles can provide interesting texture. -Have nice necklines that show off your neck and shoulders. -I like to say, "Bring your whole closet!" The more options we have to collaborate with, the better! WHAT TO BRING: -A hair brush is an essential for ladies just so we can keep those gorgeous locks looking fabulous! -Something to blot your face with for those hot and humid days. -Bring extra Make up for mid-shoot touch ups. -Snacks! BE YOURSELF: -You are the only one of you. In the theatrical industry, you want your headshot to stand out above the rest, so why is it that most headshots look exactly the same? It's my job to make your headshot stand out from the crowd! So don't worry about anything! Just be YOU!
