(Gushy romantic post ahead. You've been warned.) I'm a big romantic so when I got an email from Jack wanting to hire me to photograph his surprise Central Park proposal to his girlfriend, Lauren, I couldn't have been more excited! They are both originally from Oklahoma and Lauren is an accomplished dancer (she was Miss Oklahoma in 2012) whom over the last week was here in NYC with her parents attending the Rockette Summer Intensive. She had no idea that Jack and both of their families were flying up to NYC at the end of her trip.
During the planning process I asked Jack if there was a certain place in the park he wanted to pop the question. He said that it really didn't need to be an iconic spot or somewhere super secluded, "One day we'll be moving up here for Lauren to pursue her dreams and I just want us to have a spot in the park that we can call our own." Isn't that just the sweetest?! Well the day of the proposal came and light showers were on the forecast, but as luck would have the clouds parted and the sun shined down just in time for Lauren's arrival in the park. Her parents were of course in on the whole thing and told her they wanted to "take a stroll through the park" before heading to dinner. She gasped in confusion and excitement when she saw Jack at the end of her path. He led her down to the grassy spot we had picked out with the the pond, bridge and city view as their backdrop, got down on one knee, and asked Lauren to be his wife. Many people in the park stopped to watch the scene unfold and burst into applause when the ring slid on her finger. And the surprises for Lauren continued as Jack revealed their families cheering for them atop the hill. Now I may or may not have shed a tear... it was just such a beautiful thing to witness. As I photographed the newly engaged couple, I couldn't help but think about all the photos that will be taken of them in the future- wedding, honeymoon, holidays, anniversaries! I love telling stories through photos and I'm honored to have played a role in their story. Congrats to Jack and Lauren on finding their spot in the park!

Last Fall I photographed some fun Fall and Winter Fashion for Torly Kid. Since then I'm happy to say that my relationship with this adorable Tribeca Kid's Clothing boutique has only grown! During last year's shoot it was a very cool, windy day and I remember the kids and I shivering our way through the shoot. This time around, the sun was out and the and we were ready to play!
The four tween girls I photographed were adorable and so much fun. These best friends were excited to have one last hurrah together before one of them moves away during the Summer. I felt honored to capture their sweet friendship on camera and to create some special photo memories for them. From the 4th of July outfits to the crazy leggings and tanks, the girls were stylin' in the summer wear! Always a pleasure collaborating with Carol Adams, who always does such a great job at knowing exactly what the kids these days will love . Enjoy these fun portraits and get your Torly Kid fashion today!! 3 years ago today I married the most kind, loving, and wonderful man. Some of you may have met Josh during your sessions as he often comes along as my assistant. As CCP continues to branch out and photograph weddings, you will most likely see him as the second photographer. His talents and abilities never cease to amaze and impress me.
So just before our 1 year anniversary, my mom told me about this photo idea she had seen online. So the first year of your anniversary you pose with a photo from your wedding day. Then for every year after that you take a photo with the image you had made the previous year. Each year the photos get smaller and smaller! I resisted the idea at first but I remember her saying, "This will be so fun to look back on years from now." I'm so glad I trusted her because I know what she meant now. Our original wedding photo already looks so tiny, even at 3 years of marriage! Since our work schedules are both so crazy we took advantage of our day off yesterday to have a picnic in the park to celebrate. I feel like its so important to make family traditions. Now a days, dates and outings are harder to come by so its even more important to capture these moments to remember and treasure. And with our anniversary tradition, I know at least I will have one great photo of us every year! Since my sister Natalie bought this adorable crown (from Little Blue Olive) I've made it a point to photograph Maddie on her "half" birthday, first at 6 months, then at 18 months, and now at 2 1/2 years. The collage seen above are my favorites from all of her "Halfsies" sessions. Its so fun to see how she changes and grows, all the while still showing us her crazy, adorable personality.
I've quickly learned that with toddlers, there is no such thing as "posing" or telling them what to do. And it's really better this way- let them do their thing!! It takes the pressure off of them and they can show their true selves. Maddie is at the stage where we know she understands what we want her to do but chooses to a) not do it and b) pretend like she doesn't hear you when obviously she does! Regardless, I think we got some pretty cute photos. My oh my, how I love this little niece of mine. Just got back from a quick trip to TX. Though my main focus for the trip was for a choreography gig I was ecstatic to snatch a few photos for my sister, Natalie, and her growing family. I'm so excited for the arrival of my newest niece come this July.... if she's anything like her big sister, I know we're in for a treat! Natalie wanted some simple yet elegant maternity shots in the nursery. I loved that she wore a delicate pink lace top to match the soft pink curtains. And can we talk about how tiny that bump is?! It really isn't fair. I love this sister of mine. She's such a beautiful mama to crazy, adorable Maddie and I'm overjoyed that she's bringing another incredible girl into our family and the world!
Stay tuned for the Family Maternity Session we also got in while I was in town. |
