Time for the blog post I promised a few weeks ago... (Fair warning: an overload of photos for this one! I just loved this trip so much!!)
Just over two years ago, my husband and I moved up to Jersey and my sweet in laws drove with us all the way from Texas. Their recent trip up here was their first time back and we were thrilled! Josh and I had been wanting to get away from the city, so we decided to all go out to PA for a weekend in beautiful Lancaster County. We stayed at the King's Cottage, a quintessential bed & breakfast experience. I would highly recommend it to anyone and I hope we can make it back again some time. I enjoyed visiting several markets and local boutique shops in town. A highlight of the trip was certainly the Sunset Covered Bridge tour by Strasburg Scooters. The two hour tour consisted of exploring the countryside, visiting an amish family farm, and stopping at one of Lancaster's historic covered bridges. I was in photo heaven as the golden sun set across the wide open farmland. I'm always in awe of the earth's natural beauty. Driving along the country road on the scooter was a nice change of pace in contrast to the hustle and bustle of NYC's sidewalks! We also had the great pleasure of riding on the Strasburg Railroads. I felt like I was in a train scene of a classic film! Wouldn't it be so nice if traveling could still be that luxurious?! I can't tell you how much this weekend in PA was needed. It was wonderful for Josh and I to spend some quality time together as work as kept us both very busy and on opposite schedules. I'm very grateful for the chance to spend time with my in-laws and create fun memories with them. They are two of the most kind and generous people I know. and I'm proud to be a part of their family. My only complaint about the trip? It wasn't long enough!

My sweet little nieces get more adorable by the day. Maddie is the cutest little stinker however I feel like Penny is going to give her a run for her money! A couple of months ago when I was in town, I photographed these two in their sweet little sister outfits. A favorite moment from this session was when we were trying to get Maddie to hold Penelope. All she wanted to do was to run around so we talked her into holding her Anna doll which totally did the trick! She posed with Anna for a few photos and then we swapped Anna out for little sister. It was hilarious and precious!
These two have my heart completely and I adore being their Aunt C. Every photo shoot is more special than the last. Their mommy, my sister, told me that recently Maddie told her, "Aunt C come over? Photos with Penny P?" I love that she loves being in front of the camera for me and that she loves posing with her sister (even when we have to bribe her with Frozen dolls and mini pink marshmallows!) Apple picking is arguably the quintessential autumn activity. Its easily my favorite of the season! My husband and I enjoyed our visit two years ago to Hillview Farm so much that we just had to make it back there again this year. Their apples are delicious and the farm lives up to his name- the views are stunning a top the hill! We walked away with a bucket of plump apples, a giant jar of local honey, some cider and a wonderful new set of memories. I love this tradition and I look forward to one day sharing it with our children!
"Sisters are different flowers from the same garden." -Unknown Seeing as yesterday was National Sister Day today, I thought it would be fitting to post Maddie and Penny's very first Sister Portrait Session.
9 times out of 10 Maddie loves to get her photo taken and she was in an extra good mood during this session. She did exactly as she was told and was especially excited to hold her baby sister, Penelope, for the very 1st time. Becoming a big sister has been quite an adjustment Madeline who's used to have all of the attention ALL the time but you can tell that she really loves her new little sister. I love to think about the sweet friendship these two sisters will develop over the years and hope that they look back at these photos and hold them close to their hearts. Happy Sister Day to my 3 older sisters who lovingly accepted me as their baby sis. I adore each of them so much and treasure the times we spend together! "A babe is a well-spring of pleasure, a messenger of peace and love, a resting place for innocence on earth, a link between angels and men." -Martin Fraquhar I arrived in Houston earlier this week just in time for the debut of my brand new beautiful niece, Penelope Anne. She is tiny and perfect and I love her so much already. I was thrilled to capture her first breaths and moments on earth surrounded by her family. Mama and baby are happy and healthy and we are all thrilled to have another girl in the family.
"Penny" is the 7th grandchild in my family (5th granddaughter) and for the first time ever EVERYONE was in town for the birth. it was especially sweet having all my sisters there to meet this precious little angel. She really is a little slice of heaven. But since words aren't really my strong suit, I'll show you what I mean through photos... Enjoy Penelope's birth story!! |
