"Together Is A Wonderful Place To Be." -unknown I first met Lorna and Nelson in 2007 when they guest performed with BAHBT. I'll never forget the huge impression they made on me. Not only were they world renowned international ballet rock stars but they were incredible kind and gracious human beings. As fate would have it, several years later they retired from Boston Ballet and decided to move to Houston! Nelson is currently at the helm of BAHBT, serving as its Artistic Director and Lorna opened up Feijoo Ballet School last year in Dickinson (where I just started teaching Tap and Theatre Dance!) They are the definition of loveliness and I was honored when they asked if I would capture their beautiful family through my lens. It was so special having their whole family together for these photos. Lorna's sister Lorena (another rockstar Ballerina in the family!) recently retired from San Francisco Ballet and came to town with her gorgeous daughter Luciana. Lucia and Luciana are kindred spirits and its a special thing to witness seeing them together. Full of life, just like their mamas! This was Lucas' first time in front of a professional camera and I had so much fun flirting with him the whole time. He is the sweetest little boy and the whole family simply adores him.
After the shoot they invited us into their home to enjoy some lunch and conversation. As we sat their enjoying one another's company I couldn't help but think... These are individuals who are masters at their craft. They've toured the world performing and sharing their talent and passion. They've played every famous role in every big ballet. But the roles they care about most are husband, wife, sister, mother, aunt, uncle... I feel so privileged to know them, work with them, and most importantly, be a witness to what an incredible family they are. I truly hope these photos will serve as beautiful memories for their family legacy.
