You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret, all the best people are! -Alice in Wonderland My mom is a very special woman and to show her how special she is, for her birthday last month my sisters and I thew her a surprise birthday party!! The theme was Alice in Wonderland, an absolute favorite of Mom's. Mom is very much like Alice; clever, curious, and imaginative. It was so much fun getting to celebrate my mom with all of her loved ones. It especially wonderful being united with all of my sisters to honor the woman who raised us and taught us all we know.

Time for the blog post I promised a few weeks ago... (Fair warning: an overload of photos for this one! I just loved this trip so much!!)
Just over two years ago, my husband and I moved up to Jersey and my sweet in laws drove with us all the way from Texas. Their recent trip up here was their first time back and we were thrilled! Josh and I had been wanting to get away from the city, so we decided to all go out to PA for a weekend in beautiful Lancaster County. We stayed at the King's Cottage, a quintessential bed & breakfast experience. I would highly recommend it to anyone and I hope we can make it back again some time. I enjoyed visiting several markets and local boutique shops in town. A highlight of the trip was certainly the Sunset Covered Bridge tour by Strasburg Scooters. The two hour tour consisted of exploring the countryside, visiting an amish family farm, and stopping at one of Lancaster's historic covered bridges. I was in photo heaven as the golden sun set across the wide open farmland. I'm always in awe of the earth's natural beauty. Driving along the country road on the scooter was a nice change of pace in contrast to the hustle and bustle of NYC's sidewalks! We also had the great pleasure of riding on the Strasburg Railroads. I felt like I was in a train scene of a classic film! Wouldn't it be so nice if traveling could still be that luxurious?! I can't tell you how much this weekend in PA was needed. It was wonderful for Josh and I to spend some quality time together as work as kept us both very busy and on opposite schedules. I'm very grateful for the chance to spend time with my in-laws and create fun memories with them. They are two of the most kind and generous people I know. and I'm proud to be a part of their family. My only complaint about the trip? It wasn't long enough! Apple picking is arguably the quintessential autumn activity. Its easily my favorite of the season! My husband and I enjoyed our visit two years ago to Hillview Farm so much that we just had to make it back there again this year. Their apples are delicious and the farm lives up to his name- the views are stunning a top the hill! We walked away with a bucket of plump apples, a giant jar of local honey, some cider and a wonderful new set of memories. I love this tradition and I look forward to one day sharing it with our children!
I want to say this here for all the world (or whoever reads my blog!) to hear- MY SISTER NIKKI IS A ROCKSTAR!
Nikki started running a few years ago. On Halloween last year she ran a race in Philly and I bussed it down to cheer her on and explore the city with her. It was during that trip that she came up with the idea that for the year of 2016 she was going to run as many half marathons as possible. She made that goal and is sticking to it- she's run 15 half marathons so far and will have 22 completed by the end of the year!! I love her drive, determination, and commitment to running. She traveling all over the country for these races and gets to explore different cities for a day or two at a time. Seriously- I'm so proud of her and I wish that I was as cool as her. Well a few weeks ago she ran another race in Philly so I took the bus there once again for a little weekend of sister adventures! We went to Reading Terminal Market (an absolute Philly must) four times in two days, visited the grounds for the beautiful new LDS temple (the 1st in PA) and took in the sights of the city at the Observation Deck. I really love getting to know Philly- its old world charm and architecture fascinate me. And I love that this is becoming an annual trip! "Love is like a mountain, hard to climb, but once you get to the top the view is beautiful." -Daniel Monroe Tuttle I'm usually saying how old I feel when kids I've known forever are my Senior Portrait clients, but imagine how old I felt photographing one of these "kid's" Engagement Portraits?!
Christine is a former tap student of mine and I'm thrilled that she's preparing to marry the love of her life, Nick! Christine and Nick have been together for four years and really are the cutest couple. Their personalities compliment each other so well. I love the story of their proposal... Nick was stationed in Alaska through the Army and Christine went up to visit him. While hiking a mountain together they stopped at a historic mark and Nick proposed! We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful Spring day for their session. I enjoyed skipping around some of my favorite go to locations, Herman Park and the Police Memorial as well as new favorite, The Dunlavy along Buffalo Bayou. (I love my trips to Texas!!) Wishing this gorgeous couple so much happiness and joy as they start this new chapter together. So grateful and honored to have captured this special moment in time for them! |
