(Gushy romantic post ahead. You've been warned.) I'm a big romantic so when I got an email from Jack wanting to hire me to photograph his surprise Central Park proposal to his girlfriend, Lauren, I couldn't have been more excited! They are both originally from Oklahoma and Lauren is an accomplished dancer (she was Miss Oklahoma in 2012) whom over the last week was here in NYC with her parents attending the Rockette Summer Intensive. She had no idea that Jack and both of their families were flying up to NYC at the end of her trip.
During the planning process I asked Jack if there was a certain place in the park he wanted to pop the question. He said that it really didn't need to be an iconic spot or somewhere super secluded, "One day we'll be moving up here for Lauren to pursue her dreams and I just want us to have a spot in the park that we can call our own." Isn't that just the sweetest?! Well the day of the proposal came and light showers were on the forecast, but as luck would have the clouds parted and the sun shined down just in time for Lauren's arrival in the park. Her parents were of course in on the whole thing and told her they wanted to "take a stroll through the park" before heading to dinner. She gasped in confusion and excitement when she saw Jack at the end of her path. He led her down to the grassy spot we had picked out with the the pond, bridge and city view as their backdrop, got down on one knee, and asked Lauren to be his wife. Many people in the park stopped to watch the scene unfold and burst into applause when the ring slid on her finger. And the surprises for Lauren continued as Jack revealed their families cheering for them atop the hill. Now I may or may not have shed a tear... it was just such a beautiful thing to witness. As I photographed the newly engaged couple, I couldn't help but think about all the photos that will be taken of them in the future- wedding, honeymoon, holidays, anniversaries! I love telling stories through photos and I'm honored to have played a role in their story. Congrats to Jack and Lauren on finding their spot in the park!

"Love is like a mountain, hard to climb, but once you get to the top the view is beautiful." -Daniel Monroe Tuttle I'm usually saying how old I feel when kids I've known forever are my Senior Portrait clients, but imagine how old I felt photographing one of these "kid's" Engagement Portraits?!
Christine is a former tap student of mine and I'm thrilled that she's preparing to marry the love of her life, Nick! Christine and Nick have been together for four years and really are the cutest couple. Their personalities compliment each other so well. I love the story of their proposal... Nick was stationed in Alaska through the Army and Christine went up to visit him. While hiking a mountain together they stopped at a historic mark and Nick proposed! We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful Spring day for their session. I enjoyed skipping around some of my favorite go to locations, Herman Park and the Police Memorial as well as new favorite, The Dunlavy along Buffalo Bayou. (I love my trips to Texas!!) Wishing this gorgeous couple so much happiness and joy as they start this new chapter together. So grateful and honored to have captured this special moment in time for them! Next month I will have the honor and privilege of photographing Emily and Greg's Wedding. How I met this awesome couple is quite the story… In 2007, Theatre Under the Stars in Houston was putting on a production of Swing! I was able to snag a ticket and had such wonderful time! All of the dancing was incredible, but after the show all I could talk about was the powerhouse lead singer, Emily Drennan. Emily had many stand out numbers in the show, including the show stopping Blues in the Night. Her rendition of the classic I'll Be Seeing You left me mesmerized. Later that week I was waiting outside my dance studio before a class and I struck up a conversation with the new girl, Makenzie. Turned out she had seen Swing as well and we instantly bonded over our love for Emily Drennan's voice. That conversation was the start of our life changing friendship. I'll Be Seeing You was "our song." We would sing it to each other all the time and play the audio clip on Emily's website. After Kenzie passed away, "I'll Be Seeing You" brought on a whole new meaning for me. Years went on and I continued to cyber stalk Emily, checking in on her website that desperately needed to be redesigned, seeing what shows she was doing, and watching her Youtube clips over and over. Her voice is the perfect mix of classic and modern. I could listen to her for days. And then flash forward to 2012 I started dating my husband! We both met while working under the roof of the Hobby Center. I was now grown up and performing professionally on the very stage Kenzie and I had seen Ms. Drennan on. As Josh and I got to know one another, we discussed shows we had both seen over the years at the Hobby Center. I mentioned to him that one of my favorites was Swing to which he replied, "Oh I know one of the singers that was in that." I can still remember the way my heart jumped! "Who?!" "Emily Drennan." Josh and Emily had struck up a friendship during Swing's run and had kept in touch on Facebook ever since. I couldn't believe it!!! Soon into Josh and I's relationship he visited me in NYC and set up a surprise dinner for me to meet Emily. (Major brownie points!) Emily was so sweet, kind, giving, funny, professional, everything I'd always imagined her being. Her "friend" Greg joined us for dinner and it didn't take us long to realize that they obviously were a couple and just didn't know it yet! All the sudden I was friends with Emily. We were grabbing frozen yogurt, double dating, and I was photographing her for her debut album. My photos were on on the revamped website that I had been saying needed an update for years. Josh and I went out to her hometown in Oklahoma for her album release and during her concert, all to my surprise, she and Josh put together a touching tribute of Makenzie. The story just gets better… Emily sang at our wedding and now I'm photographing hers. Teenage Caitlin can't help but to freak out on the inside. I so wish I could tell sweet Kenzie all about. In a way though, I think she had a talk with the big guy upstairs and made it all happen. Emily and Greg are some of the nicest people I know and I'm so very blessed by their friendship. When we made the big move up here almost a year ago (has it really been a YEAR?!) their Engagement Portraits were my first session! I am overjoyed for them as they prepare for marriage and I'm tickled pink that I get to photograph the most special day of their lives. Currently booking Spring and Summer 2015. I always love reconnecting with old friends, so when Macy contacted me about photographing herself and fiancé, Michael, for an Engagement Session, I was delighted!! Macy and Michael were high school sweethearts and moved up to NY straight after graduating. For their session they endured a cold New York Winter's morning in the Park and I loved the final result of our collaboration! I met Macy while we were still in grade school through a mutual performer friend. It was a pleasure to see her again and getting to meet Michael. They are an adorable couple!
