Winter is coming! (but not for several months...) Game of Thrones fans were all a flutter last week for the launch of the seventh season's premiere. Though I've never watch a single episode, my sisters, Nikki & Natalie, and bro-in-law Ryan are obsessed. What started out as a themed dinner they were planning QUICKLY grew into a huge party and before we knew it elaborate decorations were involved. But as many people know, the Cannon girls take party planning very seriously! Like with any of our family gatherings, my duty was to photograph and document the event. (Upon looking at the images I'm convinced we could start a family party/event planning business (if we had any spare time!)) Before we blessed the food with a prayer and filled our tummies to the point of near explosion, Ryan shared some thoughts about one food in particular featured in the feast, Bread & Salt. Primarily featured in the novels in which the tv series is based on, bread & salt was considered a guest right in ancient tradition. When a guest eats or drinks at the table of the host, guest right is invoked and neither can harm the other for the length of the guest's stay. It was a fascinating tidbit to hear before the start of dinner, and it really put into perspective the power that a meal has in bringing people together. AND we had a late birthday celebration for Nikki by singing Happy Birthday to her as she blew out the candles a top the "Mother of Dragon's Cake" Mom had made. (Side note: I didn't understand any of the references to the names any of the food but everything tasted way too delicious to care!)
