“There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” —C.S. Lewis
Several weeks ago I got an email from a Mom I know from the dance school I grew up at asking me what my availability for a senior session was. I replied with package info and dates, and at the end I tagged on "Is Delilah really a Senior, already?" to which she responded, "Oh no, this is for her older brother!" I was relieved to learn that Delilah was a sophomore and that her brother, Solomon, was the one graduating this year!
You're off to great places!
Today is the day!
Your Mountain is waiting,
So... get on your way!
Senior year can be filled with a rollercoaster of emotions- excitement, frustration, determination, pride, and bittersweet to name just a few. It is such a pivotal moment in one's life and I'm honored to capture it through Senior Portraits. Becca's had quite the few ups and downs in her Senior Year. I was honored to get to know her and capture her strength and beauty from behind the lens.
I know I'm a little behind with the whole "year in review" thing but I figured as long
as I published this before February 1st I was still good...!
In no particular order, here are my top 16 portraits of 2016 and
why they were my favorites of the year.
"I see music as fluid architecture."
Last year I photographed Caroline's Senior photos and this year it was her younger sister, Camilla's turn to be in front of the camera! I've known these girls for (pretty much) their entire lives and it's crazy to think that they are both transitioning into adulthood now. Camilla has blossomed into a gorgeous young lady. Her confidence and grace SHINES through and I love her sense of style!
Since Camilla is going to be majoring in Architecture in college, she chose the beautiful Rice campus for our Senior Session location. The formal outfit she brought with her is what she wore for Prom this year was my favorite of her looks; she could have easily been mistaken for a Fairy Princess! Between the iconic arch ways, the beautiful oak tree lined pathways, the strikingly gorgeous reflecting pool (my favorite!) and Camilla's infectious enthusiasm not to mention our childhood history together, this quickly became a shoot to remember!
I. LOVE. SENIOR. SESSIONS.
I felt so blessed to have several super awesome Senior Sessions during my latest trip to Houston. The first of them was Andrew and let me tell you about him... I've known Andrew since he was itty bitty and I'd venture to say I was probably his first crush (sorry to make you blush, dude!) and he was the most adorable little boy. Then he and his family moved away for a long while and next thing I know I'm photographing his Senior Portraits and he's turned into a MAN!! Talk about crazy!
But really, I couldn't be more proud of the kind and intelligent human being he's become. He was born in Galveston and spent the early part of his childhood there so it was only fitting to have our session there to make it feel full circle . Between Andrew's infectious energy, the beautiful scenery and weather we had, and the special relationship I have with their family, it was just an extra special shoot and I couldn't be more proud of the way our collaboration turned out! I wish Andrew all the very best as he transitions into adulthood and college. I know he's going to take the world by storm.
I could go on and on about it all but I'm going to stop myself so that you can see it all for yourself!
