"If light is in your heart, you will find your way home." -Rumi
She certainly did find her way home.
If you've been following my work for several years you will surely recognize Nikol. Since we met and performed together in 2011 we've become best friends, collaborators, and clients of one another. I've seen Niki rise from the fires of her life and come out on top, more inspiring then ever. Through her business, ZenRedNYC, she offers her services as a life coach empowering creatives and artists. This past year I had the pleasure of watching Niki find her dream man, Chuck, and I will be celebrating their nuptials in a few months!
Each year when we get together for her annual ZenRedNYC shoot, there has always been a theme be it nature, urban, or water. This year's theme was appropriately themed "home." On my latest trip to New York, I took the train out to Brick, NJ where I spent the day with my favorite couple spending some quality time and of course photographing Niki in her new, beloved home. We also explored their backyard marina and a nearby park on the water. I'm so excited and proud for my dear friend and this exciting new chapter of life she's starting. I hope these images serve her well in all her business and personal endeavors!
I know I'm a little behind with the whole "year in review" thing but I figured as long
as I published this before February 1st I was still good...!
In no particular order, here are my top 16 portraits of 2016 and
why they were my favorites of the year.
You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret, all the best people are!
-Alice in Wonderland
My mom is a very special woman and to show her how special she is, for her birthday last month my sisters and I thew her a surprise birthday party!! The theme was Alice in Wonderland, an absolute favorite of Mom's. Mom is very much like Alice; clever, curious, and imaginative. It was so much fun getting to celebrate my mom with all of her loved ones. It especially wonderful being united with all of my sisters to honor the woman who raised us and taught us all we know.
Time for the blog post I promised a few weeks ago... (Fair warning: an overload of photos for this one! I just loved this trip so much!!)
Just over two years ago, my husband and I moved up to Jersey and my sweet in laws drove with us all the way from Texas. Their recent trip up here was their first time back and we were thrilled! Josh and I had been wanting to get away from the city, so we decided to all go out to PA for a weekend in beautiful Lancaster County.
We stayed at the King's Cottage, a quintessential bed & breakfast experience. I would highly recommend it to anyone and I hope we can make it back again some time. I enjoyed visiting several markets and local boutique shops in town. A highlight of the trip was certainly the Sunset Covered Bridge tour by Strasburg Scooters. The two hour tour consisted of exploring the countryside, visiting an amish family farm, and stopping at one of Lancaster's historic covered bridges. I was in photo heaven as the golden sun set across the wide open farmland. I'm always in awe of the earth's natural beauty. Driving along the country road on the scooter was a nice change of pace in contrast to the hustle and bustle of NYC's sidewalks! We also had the great pleasure of riding on the Strasburg Railroads. I felt like I was in a train scene of a classic film! Wouldn't it be so nice if traveling could still be that luxurious?!
I can't tell you how much this weekend in PA was needed. It was wonderful for Josh and I to spend some quality time together as work as kept us both very busy and on opposite schedules. I'm very grateful for the chance to spend time with my in-laws and create fun memories with them. They are two of the most kind and generous people I know. and I'm proud to be a part of their family.
My only complaint about the trip? It wasn't long enough!
My sweet little nieces get more adorable by the day. Maddie is the cutest little stinker however I feel like Penny is going to give her a run for her money! A couple of months ago when I was in town, I photographed these two in their sweet little sister outfits. A favorite moment from this session was when we were trying to get Maddie to hold Penelope. All she wanted to do was to run around so we talked her into holding her Anna doll which totally did the trick! She posed with Anna for a few photos and then we swapped Anna out for little sister. It was hilarious and precious!
These two have my heart completely and I adore being their Aunt C. Every photo shoot is more special than the last. Their mommy, my sister, told me that recently Maddie told her, "Aunt C come over? Photos with Penny P?" I love that she loves being in front of the camera for me and that she loves posing with her sister (even when we have to bribe her with Frozen dolls and mini pink marshmallows!)
Loves: my husband, golden age movie musicals, red lipstick, fall leaves, rainy mornings, dressing up, jazz music, yellow tulips, tap dancing, and taking your photos (yes YOU!)
